Jesus is born — Help tell or act out the story and Make a Christmas Board Game

One of the things my kids used to love to do was play games as a family! They also enjoyed making their own board games. This is a fun way to review a story and have quality time together. Each of the following presentation incorporate making a portion of a board game in each lesson. By the end of the series the children will have a board game to play with their family!

These interactive PowerPoint presentations follow Luke and Matthew’s chronology of John and Jesus’ birth.

Game Board (glue onto 2 manila folders)

Game Front Picture (color, name your game, glue onto front of the folded folders)

Game Spinner and Game Piece People (print on card stock)

Game Labels (print on Avery 5150 or 8160) Lesson 1, Lesson 2, Lesson 3, Lesson 4, Lesson 5

Announcement Cards (print front to back on card stock paper) ALL Lessons 1 thru 5

Game Instructions Power Point

BELIEVE the Word of the Lord — Angel Comes to Zechariah and Mary — Luke 1

The setting of this presentation starts in the temple. We do a quick review of the Holy Place and how the candles and bread point to Jesus, our Savior. Have some incense ready. It is here that Gabriel speaks with Zechariah. Then we move to the home of Mary in Nazareth where Gabriel tells Mary that she has been chosen to be the mother of God’s Son, Jesus. Wow! Who believed Gabriel and the Word of the Lord? What does it mean to believe?

PRAISE God, You are Chosen — Mary visits Elizabeth, John is born, Angel visits Joseph — Luke 1 and Matthew 1

Zechariah and Elizabeth were chosen, in their old age to be the parents of John who would prepare the way of the Lord. When he can speak again, Zechariah bursts into song, praising God. Mary and Joseph were chosen to parent Jesus, God’s Son. Mary, too, praises God in song. We too are chosen and blessed. God has chosen to adopt us as His children. We are blessed because we believe in God and in Jesus! Let’s sing and praise His name.

GO TELL the Good News — Jesus is born, The Shepherds and the Angels — Luke 2:1-21

Play the parts of Mary, Joseph, Innkeeper, shepherds, and angels as we learn to go tell the good news. After the story, add the pieces to the game. Then play the game! We’ll finish it later, but you can play as far as what is done.

PROMISES KEPT — Jesus is dedicated, Simeon and Anna rejoice — Luke 2:21-40

This is a special presentation. It includes a time for each child to be blessed and then is followed by a Happy Birthday Jesus party. Suggested activities include pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs, gifts, and party snacks. We also complete part 4 of the game, which is the first portion of sheet 4.

COME WORSHIP — Wise Men Come Worship Jesus — Matthew 2

We end our stories of Jesus birth with Matthew’s account of the wise men coming to see Jesus. Matthew wants everyone to know that Jesus was not just born for the Jews. He is the Savior of the World and the King of all kings! Praise God! This presentation allows you to have the kids act out the story. Special breakfast items are suggested if you wish to have a party on this day also or instead of the previous week. We also finish the Christmas Game.
