God instituted the first holiday (Holy day) on the seventh day of creation, the Sabbath. He knew we would need a day of rest. Later God instituted others in Israel that brought the people together in fellowship and worship. They were also to remember important days and also looked forward to future events prophetically.
The holidays we often celebrate may be totally different, but we can take the opportunity to come together in fellowship and worship.
